Welcome

Welcome to the recruitment portal for Housing and Environmental Health (Residential) at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Thank you for taking the time to consider joining us.

The Royal Borough offers a unique place to build your career. Home to around 148,000 residents, including the King and the Royal Family, it is a borough with a strong sense of identity, rich heritage and a diverse, active community. From national heritage sites and extensive green spaces to excellent schools, housing and culture, the area offers a high quality of life alongside strong connections - with London just 20 minutes away and improved links through Crossrail.

Our Housing and Environmental Health teams play a vital role in supporting residents and tackling housing and homelessness challenges across the borough. This is front line work i and whilst complex and demanding, it is also practical, purposeful and supported by experienced colleagues across the council who work together to find solutions.

Our Housing Service is going through an ambitious period of change and transformation, focused on new ways of working and innovative approaches to better support residents facing homelessness. With a strong emphasis on prevention, our work aims to intervene earlier, reduce risk and achieve more sustainable outcomes for individuals and families. Alongside this, we seek to enable improved housing provision that genuinely meets the needs of our communities, working closely with key partners including registered providers, housing developers and the private rented sector. While the work is demanding and complex, it is also rewarding and purposeful.

The Environmental Health Residential team offers a uniquely varied and rewarding workload across the borough. With over 67,500 properties, including around 12,500 in the private rented sector, officers work across a diverse range of housing issues—from regulating HMOs and licensing caravan sites to applying the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) to improve standards and protect residents. The team is also at the forefront of implementing new Renters’ Rights powers and duties, shaping how housing enforcement will operate in the years ahead. Beyond residential work, officers have the opportunity to contribute to wider Environmental Health and Public Protection activity, including involvement in major events such as Royal Ascot and official state visits, making this a dynamic role with real impact at both community and borough-wide level.

As part of this work, we’re looking for committed and skilled people to join us in a range of roles. We value our staff and are committed to creating a supportive environment that promotes learning, skills development and professional growth. These are roles with real impact that provide the opportunity to make a tangible difference to people’s lives.
If you’re motivated by public service and want to be part of a professional, supportive and dedicated team making a real difference locally, we’d be very pleased to hear from you. Please explore the opportunities available and consider how your skills and experience could contribute.

Thank you for considering a career with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
